A story of faith, courage and healing, in large format. This wide artwork shows the woman kneeling on a sunlit marble floor with her hand on the hem of Jesus’ robe, inside a vast colonnade of weathered stone columns. Jesus stands over her, looking down. Shafts of golden light stream through the arches behind them, and the steps and columns recede toward a glowing archway.
About the Artwork
- A wide, cinematic composition in warm amber and gold, made to command a large wall.
- The woman kneels with her head covered by a worn scarf, wearing a tattered deep-red robe, her face turned up as she grips the fringed hem.
- Jesus in a cream robe with a brown shawl, wearing sandals and looking down at her.
- Weathered marble columns, stone steps and a polished floor that reflects the golden light.
The Story Behind the Artwork
The account is told in Mark 5:25–34, Matthew 9:20–22 and Luke 8:43–48. A woman who had suffered from bleeding for twelve years believed that simply touching Jesus’ clothing would make her well. She touched his garment, and when Jesus turned to find her, she came forward trembling and knelt at his feet. He told her that her faith had made her well and sent her on her way in peace. This artwork captures her hand on his garment as Jesus looks down at her.
